Vans RV-3B
Described as providing 'the original RV grin', the RV-3 is 'worn' like a glove, not flown. It's an aerobatic pilot's aircraft - and it goes where you want it to go quickly and without fuss! The objective here was 'total performance', which became the catch-phrase of the Van's company over the last decades. Snappy, fast, reliable, well-balanced. The RV-3 is, in many ways, where it all began.
This aircraft was impeccably built. The tail section surfaces were increased to .020" to eliminate oil-canning, and full length panels were employed on the wing surfaces (pre-heated prior to riveting to create a tight wing). The 180HP Lycoming engine was bulk-stripped and all cylinders replaced 420hrs ago, prior to being fitted to the aircraft.
